SMART METALWORKING: The Advance Broaching Solution with AXISCO’s Servo Machine
One of the essential factors for broaching works is precision. When the spline or gear has better tolerance and is closer to the design, the machine or the part could produce powerful torque or better usage. This is why AXISCO, a professional company in broaching tasks, has developed a solution that is perfect the job because of its quality and cost efficiency.
When the Quality of Gears and Splines Affect Sustainability
Believe it or not, gears and splines have become an essential part of human civilization for a long time. We can’t imagine the world without gears and splines in the modern world, especially from the vehicles, machinery, and robotics that reduce human workloads. It seems like the world is hard to live without these parts.
Nowadays, all over the world, we are facing big changes. Resources become scarce, and business competition intensifies. These changes also affect the demand for good-quality gears and splines because they decrease energy usage and increase equipment lifetime, contributing to global sustainability. Consumers gain confidence in products and brands, knowing they are both environmentally responsible and offer good value.
To empower manufacturers to meet evolving demands of the market and increased competition, AXISCO has developed machines that address these challenges, bringing in innovations in broaching machines after close collaboration with customers.
‘Because Customers Are the Experts’ – A Perspective That Continues to Drive AXISCO’s Success
Axisco Precision Machinery or AXISCO is a Taiwanese company that specializes in various types of broaching solutions including CNC & hydraulic broaching machines, and many more related broaching tools and technologies that are used around the world.
Leon Huang, AXISCO’s Business Director has shared the interesting journey of AXISCO “Our company is just 40 years old now, that sounds like a teenager for other big companies that have been established for almost 100 years. We are known for customizing machines. We are happy to work closely with customers because we believe that every business has their own needs. Our job is to meet those needs as efficiently as possible, while ensuring cost-effectiveness, which larger companies may not offer. For example, to produce a filling cabinet, 2 machines are typically required but some factories have limited space. There might be a request to change the location of the conveyor belt of the machine to the other side, which we gladly do. This request seems like a little task, but in fact, this requirement needs to change a lot of details in machine design. This is just a simple request, but what if other systems need adjustments too? That is why we are working closely with our customers. We are more than happy to share our information with customers and we are also open to their ideas too. We might have produced a machine for 40 years while the customers produced theirs for 5 years, but the customer is the person who is most professional in their product. Listening to our customers is key, and this is also the same reason why our machines can be seen around the world”
“We believe that we are professional in broaching machine but customer are the real deal about their product! We must listen to them!”
Leon Huang, AXISCO Business Director
Of course, customizing machines is not easy, and it doesn’t happen in every case. However, with AXISCO’s expertise, it is evident that they thoroughly understand their work. They can efficiently manage minor adjustments and major changes.
‘Servo Motor’ The Answer for Precision from AXISCO
One of the most surprising topics that Leon shared with us is the reason why people need a better broaching solution. Leon divided it into 3 factors which are
- Cost Efficiency
- Quality
- Productivity
These 3 factors are the triangle chart that manufacturers have to balance all the time. If a manufacturer wants cost efficiency and productivity, the quality might drop. If they choose cost efficiency and quality, the productivity might fall. Trying to achieve all three simultaneously, which is a common goal, can be difficult or even impossible.
However, broaching is different, especially when using AXISCO’s solutions. They manage to achieve all three goals—low cost per piece, high quality, and productivity. AXISCO’s strength lies in offering customized tools and machines tailored to specific tasks. When producing large quantities, whether it’s 10,000 or 1 million pieces per year, the cost-effectiveness increases, creating an ideal economic balance.
Modern Day Broaching, New Path through ‘Servo’
In broaching, there are two common methods: one where the tool moves up and down to cut the workpiece, and another where the workpiece base moves using a servo motor. The difference lies in the precision.
Traditional broaching machines often use hydraulic technology, and they consume energy all the time—whether inserting or removing the workpiece or performing other tasks. In contrast, servo systems are similar to inverter air conditioners, where energy is only used during operation, such as when cutting the workpiece. When returning the workpiece base, hardly any energy is used. In terms of energy consumption, broaching machines using servo systems consume 40% less energy.
For the operating task of broaching, the servo machine gives a smooth movement and better continuity which makes the tools more stable and drastically less vibration than the hydraulic one. If we consider the dimensions and general details, both might be in a similar region. But if we look at the tolerance, there will be a strong difference, especially the better runout. This outcome pleased the manufacturer who produced high-quality gear or transmission because of the precision. Besides, there will be much less noise when compared to the hydraulic one.
Servo broaching machines offer smoother and more continuous operation, resulting in steadier cuts and significantly less vibration compared to hydraulic systems. Although the two are similar in term of dimensions, servo broaching machines are more precise and have less runout, which make them particularly appealing to manufacturers of high-quality gears. Additionally, servo systems generate less noise compared to the much louder hydraulic systems.
Broaching Machine ‘CHU and CHI Series’, the High-End Solutions from AXISCO
AXISCO has many broaching solutions that cover broaching tools, automatic broaching machines and the automation integration as a turnkey provider. We would like to recommend the following 2 interesting broaching solutions from AXISCO:
Servo Table-up Broaching Machines (CHU Series)
The servo table-up broaching Machine has the advantage of extremely high precision and needs less space for the machine. Traditional broaching machines may require up to 2.5 meters of production height for tools that are 1.5 meters long. However, CHU series reduce the necessary height to less than 1.5 meters. This makes the working height similar to normal milling or lathe machines. The CHU series is also easy to integrate with the automation environment.
Hydraulic Broaching Machines (CHI Series)
The hydraulic broaching machine from AXISCO is famous for producing gears and power transmission systems. Their major task is to make keyways, splines, and complicated shapes inside the workpiece. The CHI series is suitable for tasks that require high accuracy with friendly prices and fast production.
AXISCO Delivers Turnkey Solutions for the Best User Experience
AXISCO is ready to deliver turnkey solutions to improve customer’s experience. From intuitive system designs where users only need to input numbers to operate via HMI (Human-Machine Interface), to special functions that address unique problems—AXISCO tailors its solutions to customer needs. For example, one of their customers pays employees based on productivity, but some employees tamper with the output number to get more pay. So, the customer asks AXISCO to create a secret function to show a precise number of productions that no one can alter. This shows AXISCO is ready to provide solutions that are easy to detect any flaw in the system.
During training, the operator could understand how to use AXISCO’s machines in 5 minutes while the maintenance such as tool changes or setup parameters could be done within 1 day. The training is easy because HMI and other functions are designed perfectly from the start.
Both the CHI and CHU series, along with other models, are compatible with various ecosystems, including those from Germany, Europe, or the U.S., and are designed to support future expansions. This includes compatibility with Industry 4.0 concepts, as well as features like carbon footprint reporting for production activities.
